Course Overview

This course is designed for Care and Support staff across various settings, including Housing Support Teams and maintenance teams who provide direct care and support. 


The course focuses on Health and Safety in Housing, Health, and Social Care workplaces, equipping learners with the knowledge needed to work safely while promoting and implementing Health and Safety practices within their roles.


This course is aligned with current occupational standards, qualification frameworks, and key resources, including:

  • Understanding Policies, Procedures, Insurances, and Responsibilities
  • Key Regulations, Approved Codes of Practice, and Good Practice Guidance:
  • COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health)
  • RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations)
  • MHOR (Manual Handling Operations Regulations)
  • PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations)
  • LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations)
  • First Aid Requirements
  • Electricity and Gas Safety
  • Fire Safety Regulations
  • Welfare, Stress Management, and Lone Working
  • Steps to Conducting Risk Assessments in the Workplace


Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the impact of the Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations on their workplace
  • Provide an overview of various health and safety regulations
  • Define a hazard and demonstrate how to identify them
  • List potential causes of accidents and ill health within their own work setting
  • Explain the responsibilities of both employees and employers
  • Discuss the importance of conducting risk assessments
  • Explain the requirements of PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) for work equipment
  • List the current requirements for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Identify substances hazardous to health within their own work setting
