Dignity in Care

Course Overview

This course is designed for Care and Support staff across various settings, including Housing and Housing Support Teams providing direct care. It aims to enhance the skills, knowledge, attitudes, and values of staff, enabling them to deliver personalised care and support with dignity at its core.


The course also introduces key concepts of equality, diversity, and inclusion, which are essential in roles within Housing, Health, and Social Care settings.


The training is delivered through a combination of engaging methods, including:


  • Face-to-face tutor-led sessions
  • Group scenarios and discussions
  • Participation and questioning
  • End-of-session assessments

This course is aligned with current occupational standards, qualification frameworks, and the following resources:


  • The Care Certificate – Standard 7
  • Skills for Care – Common Core Principles to Support Dignity
  • Skills for Care – What values do I need to work in social care?

Aims & Objectives

Duration: 3 hours

  • Definitions of dignity, respect, and values
  • Core principles that underpin dignity, respect, and values
  • Strategies for maintaining the privacy and dignity of individuals being supported
  • Supporting a person’s right to make informed choices and decisions
  • Promoting active participation in care and support
  • The 6 ‘C’s’ – Compassion in Practice
  • The 7 Common Core Principles to support dignity in adult social care (Skills for Care)

Learning Objectives:

  • Define dignity, respect, and values
  • Identify the principles that underpin dignity, respect, and values
  • Describe methods for maintaining the privacy and dignity of individuals receiving support
